Decisions and why
Real problems that came up along the way, and how I solved them.
Balancing the game with a bot
A run lasts 45 minutes, far too long to tune by hand. A bot plays simulated runs and records when it dies; every balance change is checked that way before it ships.
The engine cannot draw
Game logic is kept apart from rendering, so the simulator runs exactly the same engine without opening a window: what gets measured is what gets played.
Rules you do not see
Spanish law forbids linking alcohol with success, so in the game drinking is never a power-up. And the yeast bank only takes coins earned by playing: no paid loot boxes.
